Unofficially a blog that's been shut down, you might still find the occasional post here where I mention something about exercise, rant/comment on life, or post my amateur third-person poetry.

20+ minutes on the stepper today. Heart rate was about 65-70%. Followed that up with upper body weights. The cardio was not very satisfying, but it's hard to get my heart rate up on the stepper without misusing my knees.

I've been checking out the sites in the "Gear" section of the sidebar. Now that we're approaching winter I'm going to have to think about running in the cold - specifically, to find light, thermal clothing. The problem is that on the one day of the week that I will get to run during lunchtime (Monday), I also have to leg it for the train on the way back from work, so I can't be stuffing my bag full of heavy clothes and stuff, and expect to be sure of covering the 7/8 of a mile with a backpack full of shoes, toiletries and clothes in under ten minutes after the school bell goes. (Usually by the time the boy gets out the door, I'm left with eight.) The past few weeks it's been a sprint and I've made it on more occasions than not, but on the occasions I've not I've then been late for my private students after that, which I can't afford to.

I need ideas about the type of clothing suitable for runs/working out in temperatures of, say, 5 Celsius (41 Fahrenheit). Anyone got any tips?

See that's a tough one. In 5C, I'm still in shorts and a t-shirt (that falls under "gorgeous" weather in my books!). I don't like Nike shoes but I love Nike dri fit clothes and pretty much all of my shirts are dri fits. A long sleeve dri fit might work for you. I read somewhere that the rule of thumb is to dress as though it's 10 degrees warmer than it actually is because of how much your body warms up.

Shorts and t-shirt in 5C? I've lived most of my life in daily temperatures of 33C so unfortunately I'm still in my jog bottoms at 25C - my definition of gorgeous. Remind me to add 20C to every one of your ratings!
Thanks for the tip though. Will definitely check out the Nike dri-fits.

If u live in Canada, u might want to check out Mountain Equipment Co-op.

My strategy for winter training is that since I will be taking up Cross COutnry skiing, i might as well invest in some winter gear for that. I can use the same gears to go run in the cold.

I figure if i can run -20 Celcius in the cold. Running +30 won't be that bad ;)
