Unofficially a blog that's been shut down, you might still find the occasional post here where I mention something about exercise, rant/comment on life, or post my amateur third-person poetry.

frozen pork

The weather's turned cold recently. There is a noticeable chill in the air and we wake up to frost every morning. Each day I wear so many layers, you'd think I lived in Victorian times.

Things have been quite busy and I'm glad to reach this stage of the term - the schools are still running but I've finally finished the work I needed to do in them, so while I have to start preparing already for our summer school (seems like a long time away) and get it done before Christmas, at least it's work done "offline" (i.e. at home) and I won't have to do those one-way, two-hour commutes for the next few weeks. I love flexi-time and not having to commute. It makes such a difference.

I haven't run for a long time either, although I walk 2.5 to 3 miles each day. In Lore of Running I read about how early marathoners would do more walking as part of training instead of running, so while it's no substitute, I hope they were right and that there's some benefit. Still, I hope to do a bit more running in the next few days and see what sort of shape I'm in. I'm guessing "one step away from being served".

I haven't read blogs for a long time as well, so I need to catch up on everyone's.

More fridge poetry:

for the teacher

Spanking-new signpost
showing the way
guiding the lost and uncertain

Soon the howling winds
wear you down
skew your pointer
north is
north east

Your 78 miles
weathered or amended
to 18
You remain in situ
merely existing
misguiding those that follow
watching time pass by
as man and nature
thanklessly chisel away
at your core

Beacon of knowledge
fresh out of college
guiding the lost and uncertain

As the howling kids
with skewed direction
wear you down
Do not watch time pass
living from
bell to bell
and misalign purpose
with existence

Hold true to your North
thanklessly or not
Those that follow
will be grateful
when they arrive

Squeal with quill!/Keep the day job

I am sure you are in pretty good shape still. Walking certainly beats no exercise at all.
