Unofficially a blog that's been shut down, you might still find the occasional post here where I mention something about exercise, rant/comment on life, or post my amateur third-person poetry.

Crunch Time

It's that time of year again.

The time of year, when you're out and about, to look out for shrivelled leaves, so curled up, that they make a delightful sound when stepped on. Sometimes there are really good ones that release a slow sustained crunch like an angry baby crocodile. If you're really lucky, you get leaves so shrivelled up, you can step on them more than once, then watch them disintegrate into dust.

Anyway...

After Thursday's run was rained off, there were plenty of such leaves this morning along the trail. In between grocery shopping and chores I squeezed in a short run using the same route as the last time. I was a little concerned and irritated with myself at not having run for a week, but in any case, I upped the pace a little - effort level, perhaps a 7 out of 9 compared to 6.5 out of 9 previously - and noticed I reached the markers slightly quicker. (Useless trivia for the day.)

Last run:
3:30
6:45
19:00
30:00

Today's run:
3:00
5:45
17:00
28:00

Stat geeks might note I've cut two minutes off last week's run by not running. If only it were only like this. It was more likely the fact that there were a few people out and about for me to pick off. And the fact that I didn't stop to crunch leaves.

On Thursday instead of running I did weights and pressups in the house. I wound up with a sore neck on Friday. I've decided it's something about the way I do pressups. From now on I'm not going to do more than two sets a day. I know conventional wisdom states that doing three sets every other day, followed by a day of rest, is preferable to doing a set every day - but not for me. I find there are more results doing a set every day. I suppose I've always been one to go against the grain.

Happy running everyone! Look out for crunchy leaves.

slightly quicker? That's a lot quicker in running times. That's like me running an 8 min pace on morning runs. I'll keep dreaming on that one.

I love the crushing leaves description. Honestly you sound like my children at the busstop every morning.

You and my running buddy Jenny would get along great - she stopped to roll in a pile of leaves during our 50K! I made her wait till the last lap though. I didn't want her to get impaled by a rogue branch and ruin our race. She promised she'd get up and run, even if she was impaled. She looks for leaves to run through on every run in the fall.

I love crunchy leaves. I am hoping less running will prove to be benificial for me as well. Of course, less running is relative. I have begun to work on my abs, and weights again as well.

I hate the leaves! They all come in my yard and I don't have any teenagers left in the house to rake them so I have to do it myself now.

Now reduce your speed times another 10% (you can do it I know you can!).
