Unofficially a blog that's been shut down, you might still find the occasional post here where I mention something about exercise, rant/comment on life, or post my amateur third-person poetry.

Priorities

30-minute run today. I did the first, usual, loop in 11:40, a 6:57 mins/mile pace, and was pleased with that - particularly as I had a 15-20 second spell of walking/jogging in the middle. If I'd decided to go for a fast loop from the start, I'm sure I would have made 11:30 or so. I started out slow because I was considering going for 5 miles, but I hadn't eaten properly at lunch time and was tired, so I wrapped it up at around the 4-mile mark. Tick the box for #16.

I recently learned that someone who taught me at University had passed away. How often do you think of death? At the risk of sounding morbid, I think of it fairly regularly. I imagine what life would be like without the individuals close to me. At a funeral, what would I wish I'd told the deceased before he/she died? Would I regret not contributing more to his or her life? You might think it strange, but thinking about all this helps me live more in the present time and appreciate it. I don't want someone to leave this world not knowing - in word or in deed - how much they meant to me. And it also helps me overlook little niggly trespasses and insignificant disagreements or frustrations.

And how would I like to be remembered after I die? As a good husband and a good person.

I don't think 7 minute-miles or PRs will feature in the eulogy at all.

Good to see you have your priorities straight! Your right of course.

Still 6 min miles could be interesting!

That's one of the things about getting older that sucks. You start reading the obits looking for deaths in your age group, worry about every mole, cough etc. Yeah I don't think my obit will say she ran a 5k in 24.30 minutes......unless I drop dead of a heart attack at the finish line.

It is a difficult thing to think about, but I think about it often as well. I probably do not do a good enough job telling the people close to me how I feel though.

My nephew died in a car accident less than 2 years ago. I think of death often ever since. Yes, how little time we spend with loved ones, or doing our passions, how we pick fights over nothing, or how we don't say often enough "I love you"...
