#15
Sunday morning in the city is dead quiet. The silence is only surpassed on Christmas Day morning, when the odd Londoner out on the street will wonder if the rapture came and he was left behind. The local park warden had surprisingly got up earlier than he normally does on a Sunday, and had unlocked the park gates, so instead of my usual loop I was thankful for a diversion. I ran for 20 minutes and interspersed that with some pressups and bench dips. I've lifted shoulders and arms yesterday, so this afternoon it'll be weights from the waist down.
My immediate goals for the next few weeks are:
1) To maintain 5 miles under 38 minutes
2) To run 800s (I'm not sure at what speed yet)
3) To maintain sub 12s for the usual loop
I think running faster for shorter, and then building up the distance, is the way ahead for the next few weeks. I want to consistently run those times I've achieved so far.
Have a good week ahead and happy running!

Those sound like good goals to me. Glad to see you getting those runs in and sounding positive about them.

800s in under 3:30 sound good to start with:)
Good going!

i especially like being the only one out when i run. that happened for a while last sunday. all was still, the moon was full and the only sound was my footsteps and my breathing.
i think your goals are within reach. i like the way you mix in the pressups and dips.

revision to my statement about goals.
i'm interested to see how your approach will work. it seems like putting the speed work first (anaerobic) then gradually increasing the mileage is opposite from the usual approach of building a base, then adding speed work. lets see how it works out. i can't see why i wouldn't unless and injury pops up.
good luck.

5 miles under 38 mins is pretty fast. Keep it up!

Running longer will also help increase your endurance and therefore your speed. like running in the early morning quiet or in the evening by myself too.
