Unofficially a blog that's been shut down, you might still find the occasional post here where I mention something about exercise, rant/comment on life, or post my amateur third-person poetry.

Faster #14

Tuesday's run, unlucky # 13, was about 3 miles at 7 minute-ish pace. Even though I tried not to observe times, it was hard not to. When I'm only running a few miles each time, about only ten miles or so per week, I feel every second counts... well, maybe every sixteen seconds. A lap of my usual loop at 11:44 looks better than 12:00, and every 16-17 seconds off it, is 10 seconds off an 8-minute mile pace. I did those 3 miles at about 7:20 per mile.

Ran 5 miles today. I have had problems tackling the distance - not so much physical ones, but more of motivation, of getting my head around running that. The thought has always been that if I'm going to run 5 miles, I want to run it significantly under 8 minutes per mile. (I'm getting sick of typing "8 minutes per mile" so I shall henceforth call it Pig Pace.) Running at Pig Pace? Well, I've done it before, so to only maintain it seems like a lack of progress. I ran/walk today's 5 miles - 4 minutes of running with 20-30 seconds of walking - and got 3 loops out of my trotters in 37:55, 7:32 miles. Worth a snout, so I shall put its equivalent in the sidebar. I'd rather run 5 7:32 miles than 1.678 in 11:30, to be honest.

What's happened to Music these days? It seems so repetitive, so umpa-chumpa. The people that kindly share their music with me on public transport seem to opt for songs with loud, repetitive drum beats, riffs, hooks, the lot, with either howled, rapped, or electronically-distorted lyrics of either a sexual nature (i.e. "f*ck!") or foul language (e.g. "f*ck!"). The artistes don't even bother to mask the swear words - I can't imagine young kids listening to that. Repeated listening to that kind of music, so base in its form, makes you dumb - I know it. It's like adults playing with children's building blocks, putting the same shapes into the same gaps over and over again. I'd say, don't put those songs in your Ipod!

Running a pig pace sounds like a good place to be. I like the idea that every second counts. Good phrase to live by.

I don't know, I've really gotten into techno lately... it's a good, consistent beat to bike/run to.

Glad you like the new Friday column *snicker* ;)
