Just returned yesterday from a trip to Bedford. Kate helped me get the place sorted out, although I still need to get someone to do the phone line there. Otherwise I'll be without the internet, which is why I haven't blogged since I left. Neither have I got the school-issued laptop yet, but I'll hopefully get in when term reopens.
The weather there was good - we did lots of walking, squeezed in a hilly ride (60 minutes one way, and 10 on the return!). Autumn is definitely moving in though - I can feel it getting cold, the summer days wearing thin, so I'll have to get used to that. Not looking forward to running with gloves, but cold-weather running toughens the character, I suppose!
Oh yes, I watched the World Championships (Paris) on TV yesterday. Hicham El-Guerrouj won the 1500m in a superb show of skill and strength - he started the first lap at the rear of the group, then gradually inched his way to the front on the penultimate lap, and then took off as the bell rang for last lap, accelerating on the last 200m. It was one of those races run with supreme confidence; the other runners might have thought at the initial stages, "I can stick with this guy", but towards the end as he started pulling away and daring them to keep up he showed he was unbeatable on that day. A truly great race to watch - much better than I can describe it.
Might squeeze in a run if the weather's good, but it sounds like it's going to be a miserable day here - looks that way too. Maybe some weights to complement the 300 pressups I did yesterday if it gets dreary. There's also the 5000m today and lots of other events to work around any potentially lousy weather in any case.
