Screwed-up Summer
It doesn't feel at all like summer. This time last year we were in the midst of a heatwave, with temperature and humidity both in the 90s. Much of this month has been in the region of high 70s and low 80s, which makes it feel almost like April. Then again, considering the amount of rainfall we've had, you could say July is the new April. Parts of the country here are flooded, and in some places it is almost as if new "islands" have sprung up.
My running has been a little messed up as well. I didn't run until Tuesday this week, so it was a long stretch of 5 non-running days - too long. Yesterday I ran for about 30 minutes, including a loop of my old running route. I did those 1.678 miles in 11:05 for a pace of 6:36 mins/mile, which is a first for that route. I've needed something like that for a long time to be happy about.
Today I tried interval training as prescribed by the Lafor School of Running - 200m in 35 seconds, with 90s of jogging in between. I used to run intervals of 100s under 15 seconds and 200s in 30, but "used to" is the operative phrase there; while I foolishly thought I might still be able to do that, I wasn't disappointed to get a few sets of 200s in 35 seconds. I'll work on the speed until I can lower it to 30.
Summer school's a little messed up as well, but we'll leave it at that.
Happy running!

I've seen all about the flooding on the news . . . looks really bad. Hope you are staying dry!

"July is the new April", I like that. Nice job on that pace, indeed, something to feel GREAT about! :)

I've been wondering about you. Looking for your picture in the NYTimes. So far you are not outside your rain sodden homestead. I hope your area is dry.
Summer school should almost be over. Well it's almost over here.

Speedy route! I have the used to's as well and I have no doubt that summer school is screwed up. Summer and school do not really go together.

What is the world coming to? It's thunder storms just about everyday here in Singapore and it is only July, not even the rainy season. :-(

Sorry for all the problems in England in these last weeks. The interval training are a very good job and it could be fun if you don't run alone.
