Just got back from doing 9.5+ miles, or 15.5Ks. The plan was to move in whatever way (run or walk) necessary for a full half-marathon, but the weather got a little too hot for me. It looked like it was going to rain and I thought this would be nice long-run weather, but just after the start the sun came out again and trust me, at 3pm, being just above the Equator means it's still very hot. The very first time I did a half marathon I completed it in 2 hrs and 15 minutes in nice rainy weather, and my last one a couple of days back was in three hours, both with extended bouts of rest, so I was thinking of how I'd do if I just kept moving. I ran the first 5 miles at a 9:40 pace, then had to do a combination of walking and jogging the remaining distance. I know I passed the 14K mark at 1:30, but after that I must have hit the stop button accidentally because it stopped at 1:33. For about 1/2 a mile or so I was thinking "Hey, I'm actually upping the pace" but then realised something was dodgy and found out the error. I took it as a sign to stop - I was getting a bit of a headache too.
Just downed some paracetamol, so I'll have an early night after I eat. While I know the standard recommendation is to do no more than 3 marathons a year because of the toll on the body, I wonder how many halfs are recommended? The University of Colorado team ran 95 miles a week for a few months - that's like a half marathon each day over that period!
I also did some barbell curls to finish off today's workout.
